GMet Forecasts Another Round Of Rain And Thunderstorms Across Parts Of Ghana Today, May 18

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has released its latest weather forecast, warning that several parts of Ghana could experience rainfall and thunderstorms later today, Monday, May 18.

According to the agency, some coastal, forest, and hilly areas in the southern sector may begin the day with mist, fog, and slight rain during the early morning hours.

Foggy Morning Expected In Some Southern Areas

GMet explained that the early hours of the day are likely to remain cool and cloudy in parts of southern Ghana, particularly in coastal and elevated communities where visibility may be reduced due to mist or fog.

“This morning, some coastal, forest, and hilly areas in southern Ghana may experience mist or fog with slight rain,” the agency stated in its latest weather update.

Despite the gloomy start in some areas, sunny conditions are expected to dominate as the day progresses, although there will be occasional cloud cover across parts of the country.

Thunderstorms And Rain Likely Later In The Day

The weather agency further indicated that from the afternoon into the evening, a few places along the coast, as well as parts of the middle and transition sectors, are likely to experience thunderstorms or rainfall.

“Later from the afternoon into the evening hours, a few places along the coast, middle and transition sectors are likely to experience thunderstorms or rain,” GMet noted.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has released its 2026 seasonal rainfall forecast, predicting delayed rains and prolonged dry spells in parts of Northern Ghana while other regions experience mixed rainfall patterns.

Residents in affected areas are therefore advised to remain alert, especially motorists and traders who may be caught in changing weather conditions later in the day.

Northern Ghana To Remain Mostly Sunny

For the northern half of the country, GMet says conditions will remain mostly sunny throughout much of the day.

However, isolated cases of thunderstorms and rainfall are expected over a few places in the evening hours.

Some parts of northern Ghana experienced heavy rainfall in the late part of the previous day, Sunday, May 17.

The latest forecast comes as Ghana continues to experience changing weather patterns associated with the rainy season, with intermittent sunshine, cloud development, and storm activity being recorded in several regions.
