Just 40 days after being relieved of his duties as Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has landed a major role with football’s world governing body, FIFA.
The former Ghana coach has been named as part of FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

FIFA unveiled the Technical Study Group as a team that will provide detailed tactical and performance analysis throughout the tournament while helping develop the global understanding of football.
The group will work under the guidance of former Arsenal manager and FIFA Chief of Global Football Development, Arsène Wenger.
Otto Addo joins several respected football figures from around the world, including Jürgen Klinsmann, Gilberto Silva, Pablo Zabaleta, Tobin Heath and Jon Dahl Tomasson.
The panel will be led by FIFA Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Lead of Football Performance Insights Tom Gardner.

According to FIFA, the Technical Study Group will analyse all 104 matches at the World Cup using six camera angles and thousands of live data points during games.
The experts will either observe matches directly from stadium tactical positions or work from FIFA’s dedicated performance suite in Miami.
The TSG will also help determine winners of the tournament’s individual awards.
FIFA says fans, players and participating teams will benefit from enhanced football intelligence, including modern tactical metrics and advanced match analysis presented through augmented reality graphics and other visuals.

Speaking about the initiative, Wenger said the Technical Study Group would help identify new trends in football and shape the future of the game.
“The Technical Study Group helps identify trends in the game, prepare future generations for football’s development and contribute to making the sport more exciting by highlighting the qualities players will need in the future,” Wenger said.
He added that FIFA intends to balance technical expertise with data-driven analysis to provide richer insights for both football professionals and fans worldwide.

The appointment comes just weeks after Ghana parted ways with Otto Addo following criticism over the Black Stars’ performances and results.
Although his second spell with Ghana ended under pressure, the FIFA role highlights the continued respect Addo commands within international football circles.
For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, supporters will also receive real-time tactical insights from the Technical Study Group through FIFA Training Centre social media platforms and YouTube coverage during the tournament.
